Exam/Certification Overview

Below are frequently asked questions about class details, parking, discounts and more:
When will I take the exam?
The exam is taken on your own after successful completion of the Certified ScrumMaster course. Your Certified Scrum Trainer will register your attendance on the course with The Scrum Alliance and you will receive an email with your Scrum Alliance membership details and an invitation to take the online exam.
What is the exam format?

The exam is taken online, within 90 days of the end of the course. It is not proctored and you must answer 24 out of 35 questions correctly within one-hour. If you do not pass the exam, you can re-take the exam one-time at no charge. After successfully completing the exam you can print your Certified ScrumMaster certificate.

How long is the test and what is the passing score?

Each of the four versions of the test will contain 50 questions and candidates will have one hour to complete it. The passing score is 74%. This was determined by subject matter ex- perts (SMEs) from the Scrum Alliance community working in partnership with Scrum Alliance and Prometric, an industry leader in test development.

How will the students be able to take the test?

Students will be able to take the test online from any computer in the world from the comfort of their home, work, or other location. The test will not be proctored.

Will students be able to pause the test and come back to it later?
No, students will have a time limit of 60 minutes and will not be able to pause the test. If they accidentally close the window, then they’ll be able to reopen it immediately. If they lose their internet connection or lose access to the test for an extended period of time, then they may reach out to support@scrumalliance.org to have a new test set up.
Why did Scrum Alliance recently update the test in January 2019?

Scrum Alliance wanted to increase the rigor of the CSM certification by determining, based on validation from active practitioners in the field, the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the CSM certification. We also wanted to involve our community to validate what is important in the Scrum Master role and to then test on those various key areas.

Will the CSM test be translated into other languages?

Yes, the CSM test will be translated into the following languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, Czech, Danish, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. The translation process will be completed by the end of January 2019, so the English test will be launched before other languages.

If I attended a class in November or December 2018, will I receive the ‘old’ test or ‘new’ test?
Since the new test is published, you will only be able to take the new version (if you choose to take an English version). If you choose a different language, then you will be able to take the ‘old’ version until that specific language is published. Scrum Alliance will be inspecting and adapting the launch of the English version and will then launch the other languages by the end of January 2019.
Should I send my whole team?
Yes! When a team shares the classroom experience they build a common foundation for discussing and implementing Scrum. Call us at 877-431-0767  to learn about the benefits of our Team Training program.
When will I receive my certification for my course?

For ScrumMaster, you will receive the Scrum Alliance ScrumMaster certification after you finish the CSM exam.

For the ICAgile Certified Professional certification, you will receive your certification after completing the ICAgile survey generated/sent via email after successful completion of the course.
